Tasmania has injected $2 billion into a green biofuel methanol project.

The process in which this works is using excess renewables to convert a coal reaction which synthesises to hydrogen and methane which can then be used as a biofuel.

Instead of burning the coal, this creates a fuel resource which has about a 13% carbon footprint compared to purely burning the coal and could help Australia deliver its carbon emissions targets.

And it’s as simple as that, and I commend Tasmania for pioneering such a project in Australia at Bell Bay.
